Home design in Photoshop or other software?

Question by thisthingsucks: Home design in Photoshop or other software?
I’ve decided I want to design my dream house. I think the only way I can do it is to actually draw everything out (blueprints, exteriors, etc.). I have photoshop. Any good tips for completely designing a house from the ground up? Or do I just open up a large drawing surface and draw it all room by room? Thanks.

Unless you have Photoshop Extended, you probably won’t have access to any of the 3D functionality. If you’re looking to just draw it out like a blueprint, Photoshop would work fine but it’s very much overkill.

You can find a lot of applications written specifically for this task at your local Staples or Office Max, etc., for like $ 30 or so. They even have pre-made objects like windows and doors. Some even have textures and furniture to help you visualize the house better – or even come with a landscape planning tool.
